  3. We recommend you buy a 72-hour (3-day) Budapest-travelcard. It is good value, allowing travel on buses, trams and metros, and you do not need to validate your ticket on each individual journey.
  4. You must validate tickets bought for single journeys, and you must have photographic ID that you use to buy your ticket(s) at machines at tram stops/metro stations.
  5. You should also travel with your photograph ID (passport, student ID, driver’s licence) that you use when purchasing a 24-hour or a 72-hour travel card.
  6. Budapest public transport ticket inspectors regularly catch visitors with the wrong ticket or no photographic ID matching it on trams or metros, resulting in a fine of 50 or 70 euros.
